Total debt expansion due to pandemic
1: Debt expansion due to pandemic
The following chart shows the growth in total debt to GDP ratios for major developed markets during the pandemic. I like this chart because it includes government, corporate and household debt in the calculation. Sometimes the growth in one sector offsets a decline in the other, and vice versa, so it’s helpful to see the combined tally.
The message is clear: with interest rates near rock-bottom, individuals, businesses and governments took on massive amounts of debt during the pandemic, leaving them particularly vulnerable.
2: Amazon soon to be larger shipper than US or Fedex
3: Movie attendance nearly back to normal
Over the past several weeks, box office receipts were catching up to pre-pandemic levels. The industry is watching in anticipation, as the year-end attendance spike - driving industry revenues - should start any moment.
